The book in question!

No matter how many times I read a certain board book to Georgie (and believe me, I read this one a lot as it is one of her current favourites), I just cannot get over a particular word on the last page…

learn’t

This isn’t actually a word though is it? The first time I read Lucy the Ladybird I was completely astounded that a book for children, who are relying on their books to help them to learn to read, would have so many spelling and grammar mistakes as this one does… and then I get to the last page and find they’ve actually MADE UP a word? Horrendous stuff.

Full of mistakes :-(

I even took to the internet to google “learn’t”, just in case my outrage was mistaken. Imagine my surprise when the very first google result was a forum discussion complaining about the poor english in this board book!

Georgie can keep the book for now, no problem… but later when she starts to learn her words I think I will quietly remove it from the bookshelves. I find it hard enough to read to her without my tongue tripping over the word and so I don’t want her getting confused by weird made up words when we are trying to read together!

She does love those googly eyes though!
